PT Cruiser

Do you know the PT Cruiser? I didn't know it but;
the PT Cruiser is a car that was inspired by cruising cars from the 1950's.
When it first came out, the dealers couldn't stock them and there were long waiting lists to buy them.
Its design is different from all other cars in the market and the exterior could well be from another era.
The grille and wheels look like something from an American drive in movie.
But, stepping in the interior, it has all the amenities and comforts of a 21st century car.
So everybody wanted it, according to my friend.

Now.
In Toronto, I reserved a basic compact car and the reservation agent told me to go select a car in the compact area of the lot.
However, there were several PT Cruisers parked in the area.
I asked if we could have a PT Cruiser...after some hesitation, he said we could take a PT Cruiser instead of the basic car that we had reserved and for the same price!!!

PTクルーザーって知ってる？私は知らなかったんだけど…
ＰＴクルーザーって1950年代のクルージングカーを再現したような車で、
それが発売された当初、ディーラーは在庫確保に四苦八苦、入庫待ちの予約で長〜いリストができていたらしい。
その車のデザインはそれまで市場に並んでいたどんな車にも似つかない異端なもので、
「まるで別の時代から来たかのような外観」
「アメリカンドライブ映画を思わせるようなグリルと車輪」
「それでいて内装の足回りは21世紀の快適性と心地よさを完備」
だからみんな欲しかったんだって。

それで、
トロントでコンパクトカーをレンタカー予約した時のこと。
レンタカー屋さんが言った
「コンパクトカーエリアに駐車してある車の中から好きなの選んで乗ってって！」
しかしながらそこにはコンパクトカーと一緒に何台かのＰＴクルーザーがとまっていた。
ＰＴクルーザーを選んでもいいのか聞いてみた。
レンタカー屋さん、
少し困ったような顔をしたかと思った直後　「いいよ」って。
はれてトロントにてＰＴクルーザをゲット！しかも値段は最安値のコンパクトカー価格！
