Toronto-ROM

There is a 3 hours time difference between Toronto and Vancouver.
But we used Vancouver time there, not Toronto’s.
So, we woke up at 10:00am everyday that means 7:00am in Vancouver.
The house we stayed was near Yonge Street, which is the longest street in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records, and very convenient; the bus stop was just in front of our house, 10minutes by foot to subway station and lots of shops were around there.

We went to downtown by the subway to look around at some tourist attractions.
I was so excited because this was the first time to get on subway in Canada for me.
There is no subway in Vancouver.

We walked around downtown for a while. It was like Tokyo. I saw a lot of high buildings, beautiful places, and busy traffic.



After that, we went to the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum), which was a huge and beautiful museum.
In that time, the Dinosaur Exhibit was going on in the Museum. I was so glad because I am interested in Dinosaurs.

They were talking about the relationship between birds and dinosaurs and said all the birds were dinosaurs.
That was really understandable to me.
According to them, there were some dinosaurs that had feathers but they couldn’t fly just like an ostrich or an emu.
They said it was very difficult to tell what a bird is.
What is a bird? If it has wings, a beak, and 2 legs, is it a bird? If it cannot fly is it a bird? If it does not have wings but it has feathers, is it a bird?
That's interesting.

After that we looked around the whole museum. It was tiring to look around the huge museum besides it was so cold there for the protection of all the objects. So, we got tired.

That was my second day in Toronto.

トロントとバンクーバーには三時間の時差があるんだけど、
私たちはトロントの時間には従わず、バンクーバーの時間で生活した。
毎朝午前１０時起床。これはバンクーバー時間で午前７時。
私たちが滞在したお宅はヤングストリートという通りのすぐそばだった。
ヤングストリートとはギネスブックにのっている世界一長い通りらしい。
そこは非常に便利な場所で、バス停は家の前、地下鉄の駅までは歩いて10分くらい、近くには沢山のお店があった。

地下鉄でダウンタウンまで観光に行った。
カナダでSubwayに乗るのは初めてで、私はとても興奮。
バンクーバーにはSubwayがない。でもSkytrainというのがある。
トロントには両方ある。
違いはSubwayには運転手がいて、Skytrainは無人電車なんだと。

ダウンタウンを少し歩き回ったら、やっぱり東京みたいだった。
高層ビルとかしゃれた建物とか交通渋滞とか。

そしてROM (Royal Ontario Museum)という博物館に行った。
大きくてきれいな博物館だった。
その時、ちょうどそこでは恐竜展をやっていて、恐竜好きの私を喜ばせた。
そこでは、恐竜と鳥との関係についてを語っていて、
全ての鳥は実は恐竜なんだという結論だった。
非常に納得させられてしまった。
恐竜時代に全身に羽をもった恐竜がいたんだと。翼のように見える部分は翼じゃなくてただの飾りで飛ぶことが出来なかったそうな。
それってダチョウとかミュウみたいじゃない？！
恐竜も鳥も２本足で（基本的に）３本指。似てる。
実際、鳥の定義って難しいらしくて、何をもって鳥とするかってことをひたすら投げかけていた。
羽があって、くちばしがあって、二本足だったら鳥なの？それが飛べなくても鳥なの？
羽があるけど翼がないのは鳥なの？とかね。
う〜ん、おもしろい！！！

大きな博物館をまわったら疲れた。しかも、貴重な年代ものの展示品を守るべく、館内は異常な寒さで、死ぬかと思った。
